Q: Will Kenny Smith be at the camp?
A: Yes, Kenny conducts all instruction and demonstration.
Q: Who will be this yearās guest speakers?
A: Each year we schedule three NBA speakers to attend. As a rule, we do not publicize their names as scheduling conflicts sometimes prevent their attendance. All speakers are volunteers and are not contractually bound.
Q: Should I send money with my child?
A: Yes, all meals are “all you can eat, but dinner is served from at 6:00 pm. No food can be removed from the dining hall, so it would be wise to provide your child with money for snacks.
Q: What should I bring?
A: Campers should bring the following: a phone card, basketball shoes, five pairs of socks, four tee-shirts, four pair of shorts, toilet articles, towels, blanket/pillow, and two flat sheets. Casual wear for campers attaining the Sponsor’s Dinner, video games, alarm clock, and fan are optional.
There will be a camp concession. After dinner, campers can purchase snacks, pizza, soda, posters, tee-shirts, and specialty items. Hours for the concession will be 11am to 10pm.Ā The bank hours will be from 11am to 8pm daily. Money can be deposited on the day of registration
Note: Do not bring watches, radios, or TVs, Camper’s cars are not allowed on campus.Ā All valuables should be left at home.Ā The Kenny Smith Carolina Basketball Camp will not be responsible for lost personal items.Ā We have some great item for your camp wardrobe, order now and we will ship in time for camp, or pick them up at registration. Q: I cannot get my child to camp on the first day, can he/she still attend?
A: No, all campers must arrive on schedule at camp the first day. All activities are prescheduled.
Q: Will my child be safe at The Carolina Basketball Camps?
A:Ā Absolutely! Your child’s safety is our first priority. All Counselors and coaches must summit to a background check by Verified Volunteers s and certified by USA basketball.
Coaches are with the camper throughout the day; a resident director oversees each dorm. Ā Each floor has a floor captain and every wing has an assigned resident assistant who monitor campers assigned to that wing.
In the gymnasium, campers are not allowed outside without their coach and they leave the gym as a team. The buddy system is use when going to the restroom.
All counselors have been thoroughly trained to avoid compromising situations with campers. When talking with campers about personal issues, we always have two counselors and/or a camp director, commissioner or administrator present. Rough or unsafe play will not be tolerated and are grounds for dismissal.
Q: What are the room accommodations?
A: Campers reside on the UNC South Campus.Ā All Rooms are double occupancy and air conditioned.Ā Please Note: YouĀ can request your roommate.
Q: Are all meals provided?
A: Yes, campers enjoy three meals a day.Ā Sodexho, Marriott Services, manages the dining service.Ā The Marriott Services is nationally recognized for the variety and quality of their dining services. While dinning at the Rams Head, campers enjoy excellent food.
Q: Are the Photo Release and Health Forms required?
A: Yes, both of these forms are required for participation in camp. The forms must be filled out in their entirety with the proper signatures.
Q: I am flying in the night before camp. Are there housing accommodations available?
A: No, there are no housing accommodations available prior to the start date of camp.
Q: Is transportation provided to and from the airport?
A: Yes, airport transportation service to and from the Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) is available for your convenience. Please e-mail flight information to our office as soon as possible. The parent or guardian of campers under the age of 15 should call our office for the name of the person in change of pickup.
Q: Do you have any scholarships or ways to defer the cost?
A: Yes, we do give scholarships, but as you can image, we also get many requests from parents. Three types of help are available:
- The Aim High Foundation Scholarships Fund, or youth on our Aim High basketball team.
- Winner of our one on one contests held in Houston, TX, New York City and St. George, SC. All youth must have high ethical standards and good grades. (B+ or Better)
- A work program: for youth 16 and 17 who work as student counselors to defer part of the cost.
